What makes the development world tick

Turbocharging your IT organization

Now that your 2020 projects are in place … and your organization structures, processes, tools, and technologies have been selected … enabling your teams to become high-performance teams (HPT) should be your next priority.

Understanding the drivers and blockers of the people in charge of critical business processes is always important to maintain alignment with business goals; however, team empowerment and accountability are your teams’ performance jet fuel!

In this issue of The Dev Digest, we focus on trying to better understand what makes the developer world tick and how to use empowerment and accountability to drive team performance.

Here is our monthly curated list of technology related books and articles that we found to be the most thought-provoking:

  • Team Topologies – Team Topologies is a practical, step-by-step, adaptive model for organizational design and team interaction based team types and interaction patterns. It is a model that treats teams as the fundamental means of delivery.
  • Stack Overflow 2019 Survey Results – Learn about the current state of things in the development world from developer profiles, to the most loved, dreaded, and liked languages and frameworks, all the way up to salaries by language/specialty.
  • Developer Experience (DX or DevX) – This is a great introduction to creating a solid and sustainable developer experience in your organization. Developers want to know that there are processes in place for them to effectively contribute to the success of the business and a path for them to grow inside your organization.
  • Why Accountability Drives Performance – This is a good article about the outsized effect accountability and empowerment have on driving a team’s performance.  This is the jet fuel!

Let us know if you would like to discuss these or any other relevant technology topics in more detail as you work your way through today’s people and technology challenges.

Here is a list of upcoming learning and networking events that we consider worth your attention this month:

  • TensorFlow Dev Summit / March 11-12 – The most popular Machine Learning platform is hosting its yearly summit in Sunnyvale this year.  There will also be a live broadcast for those who can’t attend.
  • SXSW 2020 / March 13-22 – One of the most awaited events of the year is back! Austin becomes the epicenter of technology breaking news and trend-setting keynotes and events.
  • SaaStr Annual / March 10-12 – Once a year, 15,000+ SaaS executives, founders, and VCs come together in San Francisco for the largest SaaS conference in the world.
