Positioning our companies for the future

Disrupt, or be disrupted

Every day there is at least one startup planning to disrupt your business, whether it is by cutting costs following different (innovative) processes, using new technology to satisfy the same needs, or simply by changing the way, time, or speed of delivery of your product or service.

Most of them will fail because they don’t know your business as well as you do, but eventually, someone will hit the sweet spot. That someone should be you.

In this issue of The Dev Digest, we explore a few ideas of how you can stay a step ahead of the competition.

Here is our monthly curated list of technology related books, articles and podcasts that we found to be the most thought-provoking:

  • Designed for Digital – A great book from MIT Press about how to structure your business to quickly pivot in response to competitive threats and opportunities. It includes great examples from the likes of Toyota, Lego, and Amazon.

  • Google AI and Machine LearningFrom Mind and Machine Podcast. A very interesting talk with Dr. Karina Montilla Edmonds from the Google Cloud AI & Machine Learning team discussing their AI focus.  A great and very clear perspective on how the digital world is facing current challenges.

  • Defining Done – From the Complete Developer Podcast. The most technical link in this month’s list.  This is a very enlightening discussion for non-technical decision-makers, and a great reminder of the importance of code quality, technical debt, and NFRs (Non-Functional Requirements)

Let us know if you would like to discuss these or any other relevant technology topics in more detail as you work your way through today’s people and technology challenges.

Here are three operating models of how our clients are leveraging MangoChango’s deep technical expertise to position themselves one step ahead of the competition:

  • Quick Response:  Our clients’ ability to access the necessary talent, experience, and technical depth when needed has become a key competitive advantage in this full-employment economy.  Avoiding the incredibly inefficient and expensive cycle of sourcing, recruiting, hiring, and keeping IT personnel quickly becomes a key competitive advantage.

  • Embedded Departments:  Being able to quickly and cost effectively create what feels like “in-house” teams (that work “somewhere else”) to do very specific functions like QA, testing, prototyping, MVPs, and new technology evaluations is also a great source of competitive advantages.

  • Permanence:  Our people stay with us for the long-run.  The challenging pressures you find in the US market to keep IT personnel are largely mitigated at MangoChango because of our focus on people.  This results in continuity of expertise, know-how, efficiencies, culture for our clients.
